We’re back again with another battle of the bottles and this time the theme is one close to Thomas’ & Nick’s heart: roses. That’s right, we’re battling our favourite rose perfumes with a wonderful selection of rosy goodness. Our judge this week is the iconic Josephine Fairley, journalist and co-founder of The Perfume Society, who moderates the battle with panache and brings her own rather surprising rose perfume to the table. So put on your rose-tinted specs and get ready for The War of the Roses!
Ever wondered what an aroma chemical is, where it comes from and why the heck it’s used? This is the episode for you! Thomas and Nick talk about aroma chemicals (often called ‘synthetics’) and share some of their favourites, both in and out of compositions. Get your safety googles on, folks, it’s going to be a big ole sciencey ride.
Get out your foam fingers and buckets o’ popcorn because it’s time for yet another Battle of the Bottles. This time, Thomas and Nick are battling with a live audience at Perfume Lovers London. Category is ‘department store fragrances of the new millennium (but more ‘House of Fraser’ than ‘Harrods’)’. Fun, fab fragrance and sore losing ensues once this battle commences.
Perfume Lovers London is a Meet Up Group run by Callum Langston-Bolt, Laurin Taylor and Lizzie Ostrom and it holds monthly fragrance events in, you guessed it, London. At their events they offer explorations of fragrance materials, guest perfumers, art, music and whatever else they can think of. To find out more follow the group on Twitter @PerfumeLDN.
New Fume Chat Alert! Coming to you live from The British Library, Nick & Thomas sniff another round of new and interesting things. Our hosts get their noses over ‘Superstitious’, the brand new collaboration between Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle and Alber Elbaz, but also sniff new things from Miller Harris, By Kilian, Amouage, Elie Saab and more!
That’s right, folks, it’s another round-up episode of fancifully fragrant new things. Thomas and Nick discuss the huge new launch from Guerlain and the impact of celebrity faces in marketing campaigns. Our hosts also sniff a wide range of new things including one scent that Thomas describes as “a sex crime in a bottle”. Listen to find out what on Earth they’re going on about!
It’s battle day and in yet another epic duel, Thomas & Nick are feuding fragrances from one of the greatest living perfumers, or as Thomas’ says “one heck of a dude”: Bertrand Duchafour – the many behind iconic scents by Penhaligon’s, L’Artisan Perfumer, Comme des Garçons and more. They are joined by blogger and graphic designer (and Nick’s neighbour), Sabine Cornic (http://iridescentrics.blogspot.co.uk) as guest judge, as they traverse the impressive body of work from a talented, diverse and exciting perfumer.
So someone (me) accidentally pressed the wrong button and uploaded Episode 11 of Fume Chat one week early. Whoops! Oh well, the good news is that you get to enjoy the latest episode a little bit earlier than expected. I suppose there is no need to moan there then is there? Enjoy!
It’s time for another round-up episode! This week Nick & Thomas are sniffing more new and noteworthy scents from some of the industry’s biggest brands. They range from nifty colognes with coffee twists to sexy ambers and beautifully girly chypres. All-in-all it’s a super scented episode!
