That’s right folks, I’ve been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st Century, finally relenting and giving YouTube a go. One may ask what too me so long and I guess the answer is simple: YouTube terrifies me. I am very comfortable at a keyboard, hiding behind words and photographs, but stick me in front of a camera and the fear sets in! Eek!
Anyway, YouTube is a very popular medium and it’s hopefully a way to expand The Candy Perfume Boy’s audience. So for that reason I will be bringing you a weekly video for you to hopefully enjoy. Some of the videos will be reviews of things I’ve written about already, whilst others may be things that haven’t quite made it to the blog yet. I’m sure I’ll also get some lists up in the future too! Do let me know what videos you would like to see going forward.
So as promised earlier this week, I’m going to be taking a short blogging break until Friday 30 December 2016, when I’ll be brining you The Candies 2016. So I wanted to just wish you all a very Merry Christmas and if you’re not celebrating, a happy Holidays and a wonderful new year. But before I go, I have two things to direct you to. Firstly, my Escentual column this week which is a guide to fragrances you can wear on December 25th, including some delicious treats and boozy delights. Click here to give it a read!
YouTube frightens me slightly. Maybe I’m just a wimp but despite the wealth of content YouTube has more loons, weirdos (not the good kind) and trolls than any of the other ‘tubes’, including the London Underground, which indeed has its fair share. Other than the odd music video and occasional perfume-related video I really don’t visit it much and I admire those who can put themselves out there, warts and all.
One person who is not afraid of YouTube and actively embraces the medium with as much gusto as one person can conjure is Katie Puckrik of Katie Puckrik Smells. Katie’s YouTube reviews are pithy, fun and are splashed with charismatic wit, which is no surprise as Katie Puckrik is someone with oodles of charisma and she has been a key player in changing the way that perfume is discussed.
As a general rule of thumb I am not a big fan of YouTube perfume reviews, with my tastes lying with the written word rather than the spoken, but I always make sure I watch Katie’s videos because she talks about scent in not only an intelligent way, but because she makes it so much fun. It was for this reason that I jumped at the chance of spending an evening with Katie Puckrik organised by Olfactory Events and Perfume Lovers London.
