Saturday Poll: Pick Your Favourite Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or

The Saturday Poll is a new ~~monthly~~ weekly feature where The Candy Perfume Boy gets to pick your brains about the important things in the world of perfume. Well, I think the term ‘important’ is probably being used relatively loosely here, but your brains will be picked nonetheless.

This ~~month’s~~ week’s poll focuses on Mona di Orio’s Les Nombres d’Or collection which was launched last year to much praise and excitement from the perfume blogosphere. The line currently consists of seven fragrances (Ambre, Cuir, Musc, Oud, Tubéreuse, Vanille and Vetyver), each of which is composed around the aesthetic theory of the Golden Ratio.

Hard choice of course, but interestingly enough the one I voted for was Musc. I wear it the most, although Vanille and Oud are close behind, and so is Ambre. It is easier to pick the one I don’t like – Cuir, that smells a lot like chorizo! 😉

  Haha – I’ve heard about Cuir’s similarity to chorizo and I’m yet to try it. I HATE chorizo!
  
  I do think it’s interesting that you chose Musc, simply because I know that you LOVE Oud, but it makes sense, Musc is really perfect for everyday wear.

This was a hard one for me to vote for because I was tied between Tubéreuse and Oud. In the end I decided to vote for Oud, simply because there is no other fragrance even remotely like it in the world.

Difficult choice but I had to go with Vetyver, I was completely smitten with it so it got my vote. 🙂

  I’m yet to try Vetyver, but it sounds fab and if you’re smitten with it then I must try it. It is your samples of Musc and Tubéreuse that led me to loving Mona di Orio after all.

    Vanille, Vanilla, whatever, I LOVE, and Mona d’Orio Vanille, it is one of the Very Best! Now intrigued by Musc and on my way to investigate!

    Have you tried L’Artisan’s Vanille Absolument/Havana Vanille. That’s my all-time favourite vanilla?

    Yes, I have L’Artisan Havane Vanille (since renamed), and do love it. I also liked the original L’Artisan Vanille, totally different, wish it had not been discontinued. I used it to the very bottom of the bottle! I would have repurchased and usually I only buy EDP, the original was EDT.

    Vastly, vastly different….the original very femme, and I don’t have the skills to describe the notes or how they unfold, I know/I think/very sophisticated and really to my knowledge nothing quite like it…but this was somewhat early in my explorations and a friend suggested it. I recall thinking of it as Vanilla Lace, but not delicate. Does anyone remember who can describe better than I?

    Ah, you make me feel proud, I would buy it again in a heart beat! It was a fragrance people took note of (no pun intended) and I was surprised when it was discontinued! It was not sweet at all, not a gourmand (and I like sweet), I felt very grown up wearing it, and I am now 63, thus???????

Fun new feature, love it! I voted for Musc but must admit I’ve only tried Vanille and Oud apart from that. It was good to finally find a musk perfume I could happily wear and enjoy.

Vanille, would just about kill for the Oud ($ Ouch!) and have not sampled the Musc, and now I absolutely must! This poll is fun and interesting! Looking foward to others!

There are endless notes and fragrance houses….and if you get around to By Kilian I just may have a few samples to toss in, however, would have to get upstairs to locate them, and not able to do just yet! My salesperson is generous, however, NO Ouds! A friend will help me look by being my ‘legs’ and going to look for them! I had a simple slip and fall that resulted in a fractured kneecap on one leg, multiple fractures in other foot, healing is coming along nicely, but no stairs, yet!

    Thanks for your good wishes. Going on six weeks, and improving! Gives me time to surf around, read blogs (mostly fragrance) lust for fragrances, make lists, etc. So, besides the MD bills, I will be having the fragrance bills!!!!! Which I do not mind at all!

    Silver, silver do you say? NO, Gold, all the waayyyy, but think about it, if you lust for shoes, what do they cost, and at least for me, no waaaay of stilettos, so fragrance it is….I consider it an accessory, an important accessory, I can do all black or creme, have an amazing shawl collection, fab handbags collected over decades, the final touch is fragrance.

I haven’t tried them all – I don’t own Ambre, Cuir or Vetyver, but I have the others – but Musc is my favorite. It’s just so warm, sexy, and skin-hugging. I wish my perfume budget was bigger!

I like the idea of this new feature but I cannot participate in this poll because I tried only Oud. It was nice but I didn’t love it so I cannot say that I prefer it to other choices.

My vote goes to Vanille, with Oud a close second. I’ve triedseveral MdO perfumes and found most of them either pretty or “interesting”, but the V and O combined the best of both worlds!

I love them all depending on my mood that day. Especially love wearing Oud and Vanille or Oud and Tubéreuse together. Musc is also a favourite!

    Have a lovely decant of the Vanille, and without a doubt when it goes, I plunk down for the FB, but the Oud, sooooo far out of reality due to the $. And sharing? Who gets the bottle? There are times when I just have to say no to myself! I don’t know if it was here I said, I simply cannot believe or imagine she has passed. So young, talented and sad..

    The Oud is VERY expensive, I could never justify a purchase, even the splits are pricey because of the £/ml. I have a 7ml sample that was gifted to me and I treat it like gold dust.

I love, love, love her Tubereuse! My bottle was finally delivered in January (after being backordered, the waiting almost killed me) and I have gone through almost 1/4 of my bottle.
There is something about it that is just so warm and gentle, yet with an interesting, almost astringent edge. Anyway, I’m practically a junkie for this stuff, and guess what my scent of the day will be now:). Second place is Vanille, which I will be ordering a decant of from the perfumed court just as soon as I can afford it. Third place is Musc. I didn’t think I liked it at first sniff, then I used it as a sleep scent, it was like drifting on a cloud. My little sample is almost gone, so another decant to order!

Oh, and of course I loved Oud, but it is priced so far out of my range as to be up there with the pet pink baby elephant that i want! It will never get any bigger than it already is, be perfectly happy to be taken to the dog park, and live peacefully in our one bedroom apartment in LA. Oh, yeah, and my husband has no objections. HA!

So, yes, as you can see, I do not expect my own bottle, or decant, um, ever.
