My Latest Candy Crush

I’m always crushing on something scented or other. My nose knows no limits. Candy Crush is where I showcase the beautifully scented things I’m crushing on right now so you can hopefully develop a crush too.

I have struggled with my mental health.

It took a lot for me to type that sentence and I think it may take more to publish it. There’s a negative stigma around mental health and it can take a lot of guts to come out and admit that one has struggled. Mental health is a topic people don’t like to talk about much, which is a massive travesty because mental health is something that’s very important to talk about it.  So talk about it we shall and if you’re wondering what on Earth this all has to do with a Jo Malone Candle of all things, then bear with, Dear Reader, bear with…

I’ve always been an anxious person and for the longest time I just thought the level of nerves I felt was normal.  I mean everybody gets nervous before speaking publically or attending interviews, right?  But it wasn’t just those situations that made me feel nervous – sometimes it would be paying for something in a shop or talking to somebody I didn’t know.  At my worst it was any interaction with another human, even with people I knew. Luckily for me I was able to seek help and remove myself from the situations that exacerbated my anxiety. I now have mechanisms in place help to deal with anxiety and for the most part, I am a happy person. Because of this I am very lucky.

Iris & Lady Moore

Mental health is something that impacts us all, whether it be us that suffer directly or our loved ones. For this reason it’s important to raise awareness and consider the treatment options available, not only to help support those suffering with mental health problems, but also to reduce the stigma associated with such conditions. So what does this all have to do with a candle?  You’ve been very patient up to this point so lets finally stop beating around the bush!

Jo Malone London have just launched two charity candles, one of which is Iris & Lady Moore (the other being Peony & Moss). 75% of the retail price (less VAT) from each candle sold will go towards funding one of Jo Malone London’s charity partners who create therapeutic gardens for those suffering from mental ill health. The gardens are based all across the country, with sites in London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool and Bristol. A further garden in Notting Hill (in partnership with charity St Mungo’s) is due to open this year. It’s a lovely idea and it’s really fab to see that the number of gardens are increasing, because the work they do really is important.

Iris Aglow

So we’ve established that the Iris & Lady Moore Scented Charity Candle is socially conscious and for a very good cause, but how does it actually smell? Well, the answer to that is simple: it smells beautiful. Honestly, this is by far my favourite candle from Jo Malone London. It smells really fresh for an iris fragrance, with the grey rooty quality of iris accented by fresh greenery, vetiver and violet. It’s an unassuming candle that quietly fills a room and before you know it you’re catching delicate wisps of lilac-coloured iris in the air. It’s so peaceful.

One important to thing to note is that this candle boasts a unique design in comparison to other Jo Malone London scented candles. The outside of the jar is covered in a serene pattern of iris and lady moore flowers. It’s really striking and it brings an added layer of beauty to an object that feels gorgeous in every way – in how it smells and what it does for charity.

Everything about the Iris & Lady Moore Charity Candle is positive. It looks beautiful, smells tremendous and most importantly, it funds some very important work for those suffering from mental health conditions. It earns this week’s slot as a Candy Crush because it really is a wonderful scented product. So why not treat yourself to something delightfully fragrant, safe in the knowledge that you’ll be helping others. There’s really no reason not to.

Availability

The Iris & Lady Moore Scented Charity Candle is available from Jo Malone London stores for £46. 75% of each candle will be donated to the brand’s charity garden partners. The Peony & Moss Scented Charity Candle is available for the same price.
