I’m always crushing on something scented or other. My nose knows no limits. Candy Crush is where I showcase the beautifully scented things I’m crushing on right now so you can hopefully develop a crush too.

I’m a big fan of Atelier Cologne. They are a house with a distinct but varied style and they reall excel at crafting beautiful, long-lasting citrus fragrances that are simply a joy to wear. This is no surprise, after all, Atelier Cologne pioneered the ‘Cologne Absolue’ a highly-concentrated take on the classic Eau de Cologne that seeks to create more intense colognes with increased stamina.

Atelier Cologne is one of those brands that has got their retailing absolutely spot on. If you’ve never made it into their Covent Garden store (or any of their boutiques around the world) then you simply must go. All of their fragrances are presented so openly, with beautiful tableaus showcasing their olfactory inspirations.  What’s more, one can personalise fragrances there with customisable leather cases, which are presented in an eye-catching, rainbow fashion on the wall.

Anyway, I could go on about my love for Atelier Cologne and their boutiques until I have bored you all half to death, but I shall spare you today, because today we are going to talk about something else quite lovely from the brand: the deliciously zesty Orange Positano Scented Candle.

Now, regular readers of this blog will know that I love a scented candle. What you may not know is that my husband, Nigel, possibly adores them more than me. He can be blaze about 99% of the perfumes I receive, but when a candle turns up his interest is most certainly piqued. He is also quite fastidious about a candle, requiring them to have a decent, but not overwhelming throw, whilst also appearing in an aesthetically appealing manner. So when I say that the Orange Positano candle got the Nigel seal of approval on all accounts, you will know that this is quite the endorsement.

The Orange Positano Scented Candle is largely based on Atelier Cologne’s signature fragrance Orange Sanguine (incidentally, my favourite from the brand). The scent is akin to opening up a shipping container filled with a million oranges. It’s zesty and juicy, with both tart and sweet characthers. It also has a candied vibe to it, evoking ever-so-slightly the scent of orange-flavoured chew sweets. All of this is carried by the lightness and tenacity of musk and the smooth, skin-like quality of sandalwood, with a dash of geranium in the mix to intensify the freshness and to add some greenery.

So how does all of that fair in a candle? Remarkably well and it’s no mean feat to transfer a perfume, especially a citrus-heavy one (citrus notes are quite flammable – not the best for a candle) to a scented candle. The throw is magnificent and an hour or so of burn time fills the room with the sweet sent of oranges on the breeze. If I close my eyes, I can almost picture myself in a vast orange grove in the heart of Italy. Nigel is there too, after all, he’s anywhere a scented candle is!

My final point about the Orange Positano candle is that it looks beautiful. Now as much as it’s all about the fragrance, I’m of the opinion that a scented candle is as much an objet d’art as a functional product. It sits in your home so it needs to look good and the handsome blue jar slots nicely into any corner of the home, no matter how modern or classic. But it’s the little touches that make the difference here – the leather twine that holds the label in place, the vivid shade of orange on the label itself, and even the complimentary box of Atelier Cologne matches (with on-brand Atelier Cologne blue tips) that I’ve been chastising Nigel for using so liberally before I’ve had the chance to photograph them….

So in summary, the Orange Positano Scented Candle is a very lovely thing indeed. It looks good, smells fantastic and its humble 210 grams will give you up to 50 hours of burn time. That’s up to 50 hours or orange scented joy and do you know what I say to that? Totally worth it!
