This week my Candy Crush is a celebratory limited edition from Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle. Before we get to that, let’s talk about the brand for a second. Celebrating 20 years this year, Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle is perhaps the most important and game-changing perfume brand to launch this side of the millennium. From its launch in 200, Malle brought a unique point of view to the industry and a revolutionary approach that put both the perfume, and the perfumer at the very centre of everything. Malle set the tone and standard for all other niche brands that followed.

It was a breath of fresh air, or maybe fresh perfume.

Malle is one of my favourite brands. It’s one of those few perfume houses where I’d happily own every single fragrance in the collection (I own, love and wear 16 of them if that tells you anything…) Everything is considered and well-thought-out, from the aesthetic of the bottles, boutiques and more, but also, in the fact that Malle does not rush – perfumes are launched when they are ready. When some brands are launching three perfumes a year (or more), Malle may go a year, or even two without launching any new fragrances. They are also careful about which fragrances are launched in which products, with the best scent for the medium used (Vetiver Extraordinaire is used in their shaving products, but no other scents are, for example). That restraint and commitment to quality is what makes Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle a brand with one of the most stunning, innovative and iconic perfume lines on the planet. So yeah, I’m a fan.

To celebrate 20 years of Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle, the brand has launched a limited edition bottle available in seven of their most iconic perfumes. The bottle is wrapped in a bold frieze that tells the story of the brands 20 year history, with the names of each of the 32 perfumes in the collection and their respective perfumers. The traditional bakelite cap is adorned in the brand’s signature red, as opposed to the traditional black. The whole thing is so beautiful to look at and feels very much like a collector’s item to treasure forever (I will certainly treasure mine).

I saw these on instagram a while back and I was very much feeling “IMUSTHAVEITGIVEITTOME” vibes, so when an anniversary bottle of French Lover appeared on my doorstep, I was a happy camper. French Lover is also one of the Malle fragrances that I’ve spent the least time with and I’m enjoying it’s bitter-green edge, which is debonair and a way that can only be described as “very French”. It may make me a bit more suave and sophisticated, who knows! The power of perfume is somewhat undeniable.

So, in summary, Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle is an exceptional brand and this anniversary bottle is a fitting tribute to the beauty of a house that truly advances the art of perfumery in so many wonderful ways. Happy Birthday, Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle – here’s to 20 more years and many, many more beyond that. I will keep crushing on you for many years to come, that much is guaranteed.
